Positive Commandment 11 “The Lord your G-d shall you fear” (Numbers 10:20)

We are obligated to realize that HaShem is aware of every move you make, and that there is retribution for every wrongdoing. Someone who is careless with his speech violates this commandment.

Positive Commandment 12 “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Numbers 6:7)

Every single word of the Torah study is a fulfillment of a mitzvah. Conversely, every word of Lashon-Hara/Evil Speech that you speak, you are guilty of wasting time studying Torah, not having spent your time fruitfully studying Torah.

We are required to emulate the attributes of G-d. “Just as He is merciful and compassionate, so too, we must be merciful and compassionate. Among God’s attributes is His hatred for Lashon-Hara.
